King of Shadows #2

Summer Queen

Rate this book
Persephone’s been stolen from me.

Out of my mountain, out of my reach. I’ll do anything to get her back, even break a truce that’s kept my kingdom safe.

I can only breathe again when she’s back in my arms.

When I can make her pay for every second I spent in fear.

I want more than her body given to me in debt. I want her heart. And I will punish her until it’s mine.

Summer Queen is the second book in the King of Shadows series by USA Today bestselling author Amelia Wilde. King of Shadows must be read first.

Dark and gritty, filled with passion and intrigue, Summer Queen the second book in a must-read series. Amelia Wilde has woven such a dirty and twisted retelling of a classic mythology tale, blending dark romance and captivating suspense into a compelling story.

"His touch is a command. And I have no choice but to obey."

This book picks up directly where King of Shadows left off, with Persephone taken and Hades desperate to get her back. I really enjoyed the way their relationship developed in this book. Hades is still as hard and ruthless as ever, but I liked what we saw from him towards the end of this installment and I really felt the connection that was forged between him and Persephone. The intimacy between them was so hot and filthy and edgy. The both of them slowly grew and changed both as individuals and as a unit, and rather than have it told to the reader, there were subtleties in the author's writing that showed this.

"There was something in his kiss. There was something dark and wretched and hungry. I wanted it. And he wanted me."

This book was on the shorter side but the plot was fast-paced without being rushed. The romance and danger elements worked well together, and I loved the little twists that popped up along the way. The author built things up to prepare the reader for what looks to be an epic ending to this series. I am so eager to see how things are going to play out for this couple and the dark and gritty world they inhabit.

Amelia Wilde perfectly brings the angsty and forbidden feeling of wanting a dark and twisted man in Summer Queen. It had the epic dangerous feel with stunning passion. Hades and Persephone's raw, gritty and filthy story will bring you to your knees.

Persephone lived an innocent life till Hades literally captured her and she signed her life to the devil. Now Hades owns her. And she wants that ownership and she craves his cruel ways. After Hades rescues her from his brother's clutch, their relationship becomes beyond complicated. Her mother Demeter and his brother Zeus are ready to strike Hades' kingdom in mountains. Where does Hades and Persephone's connection stand?

This story is a psychological warfare and the author executed it beautifully. Persephone is torn between her life long moral ideas and her primal reaction to Hades. She should not have feelings for a man who is ruthless, arrogant and capable of killing her anytime. But something behind the facade calls to her and she aches for his pain. Hades has secrets those can never come out else his supremacy will be challenged. He doesn't want Persephone to soften his cold heart or to break his walls. But she is under his veins and he is feeling things he should not. It's heartbreaking to see the pain and loss in Hades' black soul. Persephone has evolved a lot in this story and she is gradually becoming the queen worthy of Hades. She goads him and pushes him. Till he breaks and punishes her. Their chemistry is like the most combustible thing. Pure fire. This is filthy without boundaries and with dark BDSM edge. I enjoyed every single moment of their depraved love making. This one ended at a cliffy again and that twist at the very end was just cruel! I never saw those coming!

If you love possessive, controlling and alpha antihero you will love to hate , Summer Queen by Amelia Wilde is a must read for you. If you love an engaging story line with intense emotions and scorching hot passion, Summer Queen is again must read for you. If you simply love dark romance, this is a must read for you.

Wow, book two in Hades and Persephone story is sinful and breathtaking! As this couple's story picks up again from book one, King Of Shadows (which you Must read first) everything intensifies (which, honestly doesn't even seem possible!). If you are like me you will find yourself very quickly pulled back into this captivating tale and consumed by these complex characters. The well written story line is filled with raw emotions, nail-biting tension, jaw-dropping twists, swoon worthy passion and lots of sinful, filthy, blistering heat. This is a truly epic romance that sends your own emotions spinning and forces the characters to evolve and face often painful emotional turmoil along the way. It is dark, it is dirty and it is simply delicious!!! Just try to be prepared for the stunning cliffhanger and the wait for book three. Of my own accord I am posting a candid review.

Summer Queen is the second installment in the King of Shadows series by Amelia Wilde. I have to say that I am a sucker for a good Hades and Persephone retelling and this one is definitely working for me. Summer Queen picks up right where King of Shadows left off. We finally get to meet the elusive Zeus and find out more about his operation and how it ties into Hades and Demeter. So many secrets are revealed and, while I'm usually pretty good at guessing ahead of time, some of them threw me for a loop. This book is scorching hot with the chemistry between Hades and Persephone burning up the pages. I love how Persephone is both terrified of an craves Hades' creative and sensual punishments. Those two are fire! I enjoyed seeing Persephone become stronger and come into her own as well as a slight thaw in Hades. I just adore a broody tormented alpha-hole with a possessive obsessive streak a mile wide, and I certainly got that in Hades. Much as book one, book two end on a whopper of a cliffy, but book three is coming in May. Can't wait to see how this story ends!

SUMMER QUEEN by Amelia Wilde is book Two in the King of Shadows Series. This continues the story of Persephone and Luther Hades so you really should read the previous book 'King of Shadows' before starting this one. This story picks up where we left off and we are in full story line with everything that has been happening. Hades is on the warpath to get back Persephone because she is his and he wants her to no end. Persephone starts to show more of her strength and we start to see that she can be a Queen in Hades world. These two book have been page turners for me. This does end with a cliffhanger setting us up for the next installment in their story...can't wait!

Persephone’s life will never be the same again, not after Hades. She is torn between what she knows and the craving of the darkness. These two are connected in such a way it could ruin them if they aren’t careful. Persephone knows she shouldn’t want to be with Hades, but she sees something in him more than he sees in himself. Their relationship is complicated, Hades can’t let her soften him, he has secrets that can never be revealed and if found out Hades life would never be the same again. This author really knows how to bring the angst, suspense, a twist you won’t see coming, and will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more. I received a copy of this book.

After the ending of King of Shadows, I was left to literally count the days down to Summer Queen. I couldn't stop thinking of this story, it's characters, and everything in between. It really digs into you and won't let go, but in all reality do you want to let it go? No!

The retelling of this Greek Mythology is done in such a sophisticated way. Truly an already dark tale, but done in such a way you can almost see, if not feel, the sharp lines and moods of Hades, and then feel the breeze and light of Persephone. They are such opposites, but each also have a side that crave what the other is.

I love the male POV/aspects of books, feeling like I can dig a little deeper into what they are feeling, so when I got to get MORE about Hades I was in Heaven. To know more about what makes him tick, what has molded him into the dark god he is, and what he truly desires just feed into my addiction to this character. Then watching Persephone grow into herself, into her inner strength and power, throwing off the chains her mother has strapped her in, was empowering. Even when her world was coming down around her ears, she draws herself up and becomes the Queen she is. Loved every moment of it!

Getting a wider view of the world they live in just adds to the intense drama, and I am already counting down the days till Midnight Kingdom is in my hot hands. Summer Queen is sexy, intense, and true PERFECTION!

Yas! Installment 2 in the King of Shadows series! I burnt through King of Shadows when time I read it and absolutely LOVED IT. I loved Amelia’s ability to play of light and dark and she’s carried that theme through the second book. But this book has a lot more of the “light” that book 1 left out.

Everything seems too bright, too harsh. It’s just candlelight and sconces on the walls, along with some lit-up centerpieces at the tables ringing the room, but it seems like the blaze of high noon.

I will say that I felt that this story could have been wrapped up in Book 1 but its only got me more excited for Book #3!

Please keep in mind this review includes spoilers.

The Story

When Persephone wakes, she wakes into what others would consider a heavenly location – bright lights, happy people – the complete opposite of where she’s been held with Luther Hades.

Despite it being a “happy” place, she’s being held as prisoner by none other than Hades’ rival, his brother Zeus.

It doesn’t take long for Zeus to go and get what’s his – which kicks off a series events behind the scenes that will force Hades’ sanctuary to go under siege.

Throughout this book, it’s hard to determine exactly how Hades feels about Persephone. In one instance, he’s battling his feelings with her, the next, he’s still punishing her for escaping the mountain behind his back, forcing him to break a long-standing agreement.

At one point, I felt Wilde made you want to hate Hades too much but stay with it, there’s a reason for it! He tries to win Persephone’s favor with little gifts, and there’s a new character introduced that helps Hades become more human.

The Characters

Please see my blog for my initial breakdown of the characters.

Let’s Talk About (the) Sex, Baby!

Wow – this book is hotter than book 1 and the nature of the sex pushes the limits of being non-consensual. However, you get a lot of the interaction from Persephone’s perspective which helps you understand their interactions.

I undo my pants with one hand and shove inside her. I’m half gone. Merciless. Animal. Whether it’s punishment or pleasure makes no difference.

You almost feel bad for Persephone because there really is no give from Hades in regards to his feelings for her other than little, tiny gifts that he presents her. You almost wonder why she stays – why she feels the way she does when it’s so unrequited.

He’s a wild thing, all muscle and power concentrated into fucking me. It forces the air from my lungs every time he enters.

The Writing

Once again Wilde’s interpretation of the classic Greek myth transposed into the modern era is beautifully done and creatively outlined – giving a new personality to characters we’ve been familiar with in this classic stories.

I can’t wait for Book 3!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

What's mine is mine forever. That includes Persephone. But I want more than to own her body and her soul and her debt. I want her heart. And not that she's been stolen from me, I want revenge. At any cost. At any price. They've taken whats mine. And I'm going to get it back.

This is the second book in the King of Shadows Series you need to read that book, King of Shadows first or your going to be so lost. I don't even know how to review this book and not give something away. If you have read King of Shadows then you know we were left with a OH WHAT IN THE WORLD moment at the end of that book. You also know that Persephone signed a contract with Hades and that she officially belongs to him. However she escapes and ends up in the most unexpected of places. Now it is time for Hades to go after what is his and what a read it is. It is dark and gritty and you will be on the edge of your seat. This is one twisted tale that I am so glad I didn't miss because I love a good dark and twisted book.

I am completely digging this series about Hades and Persephone that has a bit of a spin on it from the version that we all know and love. This definitely dives into the dark side of things, but I absolutely love it! This book shows you that you may know something to be "bad" or that you shouldn't want it, but that does not mean that you don't crave it, just ask Persephone! ;)

There are still a lot of suspenseful twists and turns in Summer Queen that you are not expecting. These two are pure opposites but help bring out qualities in the other that make them more balanced. All in all if you liked the first book or looking for a new dark romance with a spin series, I highly recommend checking out the King of Shadows series and Summer Queen. I can't wait to see what happens next! 5 stars from me!

PS: Thank you to Amelia Wilde and Candi Kane PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

Summer Queen by Amelia Wilde is the second installment in the King of Shadows series and reading this book was even better than reading the first!

The first book ended with the biggest cliffhanger and starting off this book we get right into the action and all the answers leading the to mysterious cliffhanger, I loved the chemistry between Persephone and Hades (and also loved the connection of Hades with his dog, Connor), their constant bickering was a highlight for sure.

I loved how the author still had both points of views with Persephone and Hades, Persephone was hidden growing up and what she finds out later in the book makes her realize that everything is not what it seems and she later has to face that reality.
The emotional state Hades had to go through also was so interesting to read , he definitely had a more vulnerable state of mind in this book. He was more intense in the first book and I didn’t think he was capable of being so emotional in this book, it was very refreshing to read.

This book gave me all the feels and can’t wait to read Midnight Kingdom, the ending had me biting my nails!

Summer Queen is the second book in the King of Shadows series. And it is a continuation of a modern day retelling of Persephone and Hades story. We were left with an OH NO moment at the ending of King of Shadows. So I couldn’t wait for this book!

Persephone signed a contract with the King of Shadows, Hades. Persephone belongs to Hades. Persephone escapes from the mountain and from Hades but she is delivered into Hades brothers arms, Zeus.

Hades goes after Persephone, she is HIS. Persephone didn’t realize it but she craves Hades and she shouldn’t, should she?

Summer Queen is a dark and twisted tale and I couldn’t put this book down! Of course I got another OH NO moment at the end of this second book. I CAN’T WAIT to read the conclusion of this trilogy! Midnight Kingdom will be out in May, 2020. Not too long of a wait!

Picking up where book one left off, I was once again swept away by Hades and Persephone's story. Torn between love & hate, I was fascinated by the way Persephone came into her own and became the Queen she is meant to be. To watch as Hades finally admits his feelings and then the secrets he shares is truly breathtaking. I can't wait to see how their story ends!!

Summer Queen is the second book in the King of Shadows series, and HOLY HELL! Anyway, YOU MUST READ King of Shadows FIRST, as it's a continuing story line. It also means that I'm not giving anything away, just in case readers read reviews to both books before they actually read either of them. The dark twist that the Amelia Wilde has put on the Hades & Persephone legend was next level, though I always thought it was on the darker side. The delicious dirtiness to it all had me all in, though I would find myself really enraged at Hades' actions throughout, but couldn't put it down for anything anyway, but these two never stood still, nope, they're ever evolving together, but it's not over either. I'm so ready for what I believe will be an explosive ending, and the wait will drag on for what feels like forever, but I believe will totally be worth it. So get in on this series, as it's an EPIC journey to date, by hitting those one click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Persephone is so much more than expected...

We open on a flashback to a rebellious moment that foreshadows Persephone's future. And a reference to the Fates.

Foreward to the present, Hades is dealing with the aftermath of Persephone's kidnapping. He knows it was Zeus. The order of things is about to come tumbling down...

Meanwhile Persephone discovers her captor and Hades AND her mother are all connected...closely...

...but she still wants her Hades. He definitely wouldn't be happy she's in a whorehouse.

Lucky for her, he does something he rarely does...

...and so a chain of events is triggered...

In the meantime, we learn more about Hades, why he prefers the dark, and the way things are supposed to be.

Persephone goes from a sprouting bud to full bloom by the end...she is ready to lead her people to war. She and Hades are darkness and light.

Loved it!!

Persephone thought that all her arrangement with Hades was with a situation she needed to extradite herself from as soon as possible so when she has her chance, she escapes only to find out the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Hades is determined to not only get Persephone back but to ensure that she stays. He has now successfully achieved the first part, but the second part is proving to be a lot more complicated. Not only are there outside forces trying to tear them apart but they also find themselves battling each other and themselves.

The chemistry between them burns hotter than ever but now we get to see the changes that they bring about in each other as they prove they are so much stronger together than apart.

“The truth is that I want him, and I’m not supposed to. If I close my eyes to what he really is, then at least I can pretend I’m not falling for a monster.” ~ Persephone

An intense read that will leave you wanting the next book in this series to see what else will happen. Persephone and Hades story continues with lots of twists and turns. Love how the author brings each character to life.

Summer Queen by Amelia Wilde is the second book in the King of Shadows trilogy. I was really excited for this after reading King of Shadows (book one) earlier this year. It picks up right where King of Shadows left off, with Hades dealing with his injured dog Connor and Persephone's escape. I was hooked from the beginning, and there was just as much action and suspense in this novel. There were less erotic and steamy scenes between Persephone and Hades, which I wish there were more of. I did like the ones they did have, however. I really liked seeing Hades being affectionate in his own way with Persephone and learning more about him as a person. Persephone went through a change near the end of the novel, and I'm excited to see what she does in the final book. I definitely recommend starting this series or continuing it. I think this is a great Persephone and Hades retelling and it's well written with interesting characters.

Wow! This sequel is intriguing, fascinating, exciting, mind blowing, dark twisted … you name it!
Persephone and Hades … they are so perfect for each other, complement each other as if they were destined for each other by fate.
The re-telling of this Greek myth is pure fascination. I feel as if I am drawn into a new universe, unable to separate myth and reality, and that has never happened to me before. After I finished reading it, it felt like something out of a dream, like the resurfacing of a wave that threatened to drown me.
I can't wait to read Midnight Kingdom.

Whoa! Hades and Persephone's story continues here and we get to see more of Persephone's growth and how she is becoming the queen Hades needs. It's dark and gritty, depraved but so captivating. The scenes sucked me in and I couldn't stop reading. I am slightly disappointed that it does not end here. There is a cliffhanger that will leave you with your mouth hanging open and anxiously awaiting the next book.

My gosh, this book is an emotional rollercoaster. Summer Queen continues where the first book in the series left off and things get even more heated.

Hades needs to get Persephone back and nothing will stop him. He won't let anything stand in his way, but his actions have consequences that will affect not only his arrangement with Zeus and Demeter but also the safety of all the people that live on his mountain. War is knocking at his door and they have to prepare for the worst outcome.

The relationship between Hades and Persephone unravels in the most alluring way. She is his drug of choice, she brings him comfort went the pain is too much to deal with. But Hades also feels vulnerable in her presence, and all his secrets want to break free from his mouth whenever Persephone asks a question. And she asks a lot of questions, her need for information and a better understanding of the situation she's in overwhelms her mind constantly. The only thing she has left to bargain with for answers are her thoughts because Hades already possesses her body. Persephone craves him with an intensity that rattles her soul. The feelings Hades evokes in her are scary but at the same time liberating. She realizes she belongs to him completely and there is no better place for her to be than at his side.

This book drips out passion, angst, and darkness. It's a constant battle of wills between the protagonists. And the way they fall apart together is beautifully presented. So many moments clutched at my heartstrings and so many more set me on fire. I desperately need Hades and Persephone to have a HEA. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I will NEVER get enough of these characters! I'm so caught up in this trilogy! Summer Queen is book two in the King of Shadows Trilogy and it's Dark and Delicious! This book will give you goosebumps! After I read book 1 I was dying to find out what was next! This book is wayyyyyyy hotter than the first! Get ready for a cold shower! The heat has definitely been cranked up! These two are so addictive, they're ravenous and filthy, and you just can't get enough of the intoxicating passion that Hades and Persephone have for each other! Wilde has created such a phenomenal world! Once I started reading I didn't want to come up for air! I finished this baby wayyy too quickly! Truths are revealed and the character's internal battles are gripping! Oh what I would sign away to belong to this man! I love that we get more of Hade's background story! There's nothing better than a brooding alpha male with secrets, who's ground is starting to crumble. I loved this book so hard! I'm dying for the third book but I'm not ready for this to come to an end. I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was the second book in the trilogy and it leaves you one hell of a cliffhanger! The book moves at a decent pace but you don't really get a lot of new plot until the end just in time to finish for the next book. There is some big shocking and heartbreaking revelations that come to light. The story does keep you turning the pages at a rapid pace it's easy to devour. The only thing that puts me off is the brutality of the "sex" And sex is really stretching it, it's not really rape because it's consensual I guess. I really love the Hades and Persephone lore this one just pushes it a bit more for me. Over all its well written four stars.
