Gappy's Gadgets (Ononokin: Other Tales in Ononokin Book 3) Kindle Edition
Please note that these are not kids books! They contain adult themes, adult humor, and mild adult language.
Gappy Whirligig is an industrious gnome who has yet to reach the Age of Tinkering. He's 42. All he wants to do is build a flying contraption. Unfortunately, building such a device requires a fuel source that may make him explode, and the gnome town of Hubintegler has strict rules against inhabitants blowing themselves up prior to the age of 50.
But when Gappy finds himself suddenly alone in the world, he decides to leave Hubintegler's rules and regulations behind as he seeks to make his mark in the seedy city of Planoontik.
Now, he must find a place to set up shop, manage governmental bureaucracy, use the Rent-A-Friend service, and wrestle with the local halfling mafia (known as the Halfia) as they incessantly try to destroy his business. On top of that, Gappy ends up hiring an oversized orc who has a fierce appetite for pizza, and that ain't cheap.
Even worse, Gappy has fallen for a beautiful—but ruthless—owner of a competing engineering firm, and she has a strong reputation for crushing her competitors...
Here's what Amazon readers are saying:
★★★★★ ‘This is a delightful universe, with a weary but feisty old wizard, his nemesis who is a former student, unexpectedly topsy-turvy characters, and wildly imaginative sources of magical power! Yes, an adult fairy tale alright, with hints of nightly activities that we wouldn't want to explain to children. ;)’
★★★★★ ‘Great book and a hilarious read. I couldn't put it down and loved the characters. It is a must read for any fantasy reader out there.’
★★★★★ ‘I'm a sucker for kind heroes and imaginative worlds. This has it in spades.’
★★★★★ ‘I have read Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and A. Lee Martinez and I would rank this among those books. I laughed so hard a few times people around me asked what the book was about and enjoyed the book as much as I did after reading it. I highly recommend purchasing this book!'
★★★★★ ‘This truly inspired fantasy creation of sheer genius left me awestruck, for it was unexpectedly exceptional and just brilliant.’

About the authors
John was raised in the MD/VA/DC area of the United States. Growing up, John had a steady interest in writing stories, playing music, and tinkering with computers. He spent over 20 years working in the video games industry where he acted as designer, programmer, and producer on many online games.
He transitioned into being a full-time author in December of 2017, focusing on urban fantasy, science fiction, fantasy, and anything else that happens to tickle his imagination.

I spent the majority of my childhood reading and writing science fiction while learning the craft of storytelling. As I got older, I found myself working in the video games industry, which helped me to understand the concept of design, structure, and layout. One of the key components of my style is humor. I can certainly create serious stories, and have plans to do just that, but I can't help but admit that working in comedy is a lot more fun.
Here are the worlds that I'm currently working in:
* Tales from the Land of Ononokin - comedic fantasy
* The Intergalactic Research Bureau - comedic s.f.
All of my books are published through Crimson Myth Press ( www.crimsonmyth.com ).
I live in Southern California (U.S.A.) with my wife and an ever-growing population of critters.

I loved the way Logson and Young created such laughable, lovable, relatable characters -- even their villains. I also loved the way they combined the absurd with the mundane to create humor. These two talented writers definitely know how to delight readers.
I hope that Logson and Young plan to write more Ononokin books (4 is not enough!) because I will be eagerly waiting to read them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend it.
The Fate Quest (Tales From the Land of Ononokin .5) is available only through Logson's site, please note that is point 5 as in 1/2 not #5.
This is a fun book and a joy to read. Great character development. Several laugh-out-loud moments and plenty of giggles. My only complaint is that I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen early on in the book, and that kept away the tension I like to feel when a character I love is in danger. Of course (*spoiler alert*) the hero will win and the villain will lose, but I want to have just a few moments of doubt. That lowered my rating from 5 stars to 4.
Overall, the fantasy world is well developed, and there were many times where I was introduced to a new character and thought "I have met this person" even though the character might be an orc or a troll.
And while the storyline or ending may seem a little predictable, the journey getting there still manages to captivate you. All in all this is another enjoyable read from Logsdon and Young. If you want a book you can pick up and immerse yourself in (adult) silliness and fun, then this folks is it!
I enjoyed the book so much I then also bought a copy.
My only complaint about this book is the amount of sleep I lost reading it.
Fun read.
I got pissed at some characters for the way they were treating others.
I got happy when some characters did what they did.
Yes, you invest in the characters.
No, you don't need to have read the other books in this world to enjoy this book.
Well worth it.

This book, as with others by the same authors, hook you in from the first sentence and although he plot jogs happily (keeping those pages turning at 2am) the strength for me lies in the personalities of the characters and the entertaining dialogue and interactions between them all. Nothing feels like its forced and you get a sense that these are real ‘people’…. or ‘Ogres’ or ‘Gnomes’, making their own autonomous decisions. There were a couple of times in the book I thought that the story might go off in a formulaic way, but it was refreshing that the characters didn’t allow that to happen. The writing is dialogue-rich and unrelentingly funny. Sometimes you laugh out loud, generally you find yourself smiling and chuckling quietly or suppressing a laugh if you’re in public!
Aside from enjoying a believable other world and ‘real’ characters, I really enjoyed the original ideas and concepts that pepper the story. Reminds me very much of Douglas Adams - the sort of original ideas that only come about after spending the afternoon in the bath.
These books are intended for an adult audience as there is are a couple of mild grown-up references in there such as a character ’sleeping around’ type of thing. For me, although they do add a little to the colour of the story, I think if these mild references were left out, these books might be suitable for a sophisticated younger audience too. Mind you I can’t let my daughter watch all of Monty Python’s work yet either!
I would highly recommend Gappy's Gadgets and all the other books by John P. Logsdon and Christopher P. Young. They are great world creators and this book is a great place to start if you are new to their work. A++++++++
