Publisher's summary

He can see beyond the veil of death. And what he sees is terrifying....

Gray Brooks knows all about death. A former Marine, he survived the horrors of war, only to waste his life in a series of drunken nights and misdemeanors. But all that changed the day he was shot in a robbery gone wrong. After being pronounced clinically dead, Gray returns to life in the hospital. And something inside him has changed....

Still tethered to the afterlife, Gray now sees the supernatural beings that stalk humanity. Demons, ghosts, and other creatures that defy logical explanation. And for once in his life, Gray is compelled to do the right thing—to defend innocent lives from the festering evil that plague them.

Joining forces with a practitioner of the occult, Gray sets out to fend off sinister beings. But sensing these hideous forces is one thing and killing them is quite another. And unless Gray can discover these creatures’ weaknesses in time, he may find himself returned to the shadowy realm of death.

And this time, there will be no coming back....

1st of Series

Good start of series. Enjoy the characters of Gray, Reeves and Juniper. Gray somehow survive after gunshot after being revived but finds he now is able to see ghosts and demons as well as communicates with his friend and dead sergeant Reeves. He finds help with understanding of these new supernatural abilities with Juniper and now can help save people from demons and ghosts out to destroy them. One ghost tells him there is going to be a rift in the veil. Cannot wait for next book but would like to see more of interactions with ghosts

Am interesting beginning to a new series

Gray Brookes had an unfortunate near death experience and now he can see the dead and monsters beyond the veil. This book is not the standard ghost story nor monster story. An interesting and exciting collaboration for sure. I can't wait to see where Gray's newfound ability takes him.

Great book. Lots of gore and violence!

Unlike other Ron Ripley books, if you don’t have a strong stomach, I don’t advise this one, but if you can handle the gore, definitely read it! It definitely makes you think about some of the world’s unexplained disappearances and mutilations. I can’t wait for the next book to come out on audible!

Soldier

I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ANF I'm willingly doing so now. wonderful book meeting Gray was an experience. I like seeing things the way he does. the fact he is a marine is aqesome. this will leave you wanting more and not wanting the book to end. and Thom did an awesome job narrating this his inflection is one of a kind.

Give Me More!

Good world building. Good character establishment. Engaging story. Loved the buildup of learning about the supernatural world from the eyes of the initially sceptical main character. Ready to see what happens next!

Totally unique new story line!

So, it goes without saying that I love Ron Ripley, his books, his style of writing. Ron co-wrote this with Kevin Saito though – and given the story line, I think it’s more Kevin’s than Ron’s. Monsters haven’t exactly been the kind of books I’ve seen from Ron – more fabulous ghost stories. However, I do like Gray and Juniper – the main characters – and I did enjoy the book, It is a fast paced, although it starts a bit slow. I will say that you may not like Gray Brooks at the beginning but will love him at the end. Enjoy this brand new series!
