I Said Run: A Psychological Thriller is yet another fast-paced and twisty read from the amazing Britney King and man was this thing packed full of surprises! I couldn't believe some of the things that happened in this book, and if you think you have it all figured out, I promise that you do not. I could have easily read this in one sitting, and it was quite literally a pulse-pounding read for me. My heart rate accelerated several times throughout the storyline and the twists made my mouth drop open more than once.

The plot gives new meaning to the phrase how far would you go to get something you wanted, and this was an especially dark novel in more ways than one. Survival is the heart of the matter in I Said Run, and Jenkins may be a psycho, but Eve has a will to survive that won't be stopped by the likes of him. I always liken King's dark plots to those of Karin Slaughter except more surface level as far as the characters go, and this isn't a deep dive character study, but it is disturbing and uncomfortable all the same. I think everyone needs to read this if you are a thriller fan, and you won't be sorry if you love jaw-dropping moments and high-speed plots!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Anytime you pick up a book by Britney King you know that you need to clear your schedule and get comfortable. This is a one sitting read and you will go through all the emotions. As always, there are characters you will loathe, and those that you will warm to. Just be prepared to shocked is all I can say.. that ending!!! 😱

Eve has gone against her wealthy family’s wishes and married Scott. They have moved to his hometown, a small town, and are renovating their home. But she is nit happy. She misses the money and freedom. Then one day she is abducted from a car park.

We hear the story then from multiple points of view. The man who has taken Eve is one sick person. Her sister comes to help the search and police are not being very cooperative.

You just need to read this. It is crazy, it is dark and it is good.

Thanks so much to Britney once again for having me on her ARC team and Enticing Tours. Out now.

It seems so fitting that just as I entered my kidnapping trope phase, one of my favorite female authors, Britney King, releases a book of just that.

I loved this book. I must have you understand this first. But the beginning of this book - it wasn’t bad, it just didn’t capture typical King writing. There just seemed to be a lot of similes - words eluding to horror and terrifying things happening, but no actual scary foundation. That’s the best way I can explain it. It was there but it wasn’t. So, if you begin to read this book and think to yourself, “whaaaaaat,” just continue on - I promise it will be worth it.

In typical B-King style this book was devilishly twisted with a jaw dropping plot. I can’t say much more without giving away the twist - but I’ve read another book that has a similar, in no way the same or on the same level, theme and I discovered this is something people can do in real life. Which is so intriguing to me - you’ll understand this after you read the book.

So I loved that King explored the potential of things going terribly wrong. It was just as fun to read as I bet it was to write.

If you’ve read Gray After Dark, The Final Scene, or Appetite for Innocence you will absolutely love, love, love this book. It has that same level of “omgg am I really reading this” feel to it - with pure terror filled situations. Something you can only imagine happening in the darkest of nightmares.

So buy this book, clear your schedules, and be prepared to read this in one night.

Eve comes from an influential family rooted in wealth and power. Eve and Lucy were adventure seekers with a competitive streak. When Eve met Scott she knew she wanted the challenge of being his wife. Living in his small hometown in Oak Hollow was not easy for Eve. The townsfolk remained leery about welcoming outsiders especially ones who come from money.

When Eve is abducted Scott calls upon his friends at the police department to help search for her. The police believe Eve left on her own free will claiming she had cold feet after marrying a poor man.

Britany King writes about Eve a woman who married beneath her wealth, according to her father. Eve moved to Scott’s small town where the people there didn’t embrace her with open arms. Eve tries to make a simple life with Scott, but a phone call from her sister Lucy spikes a new sense of adventure in her.

Ms. King shares the story from Scott’s and Eve’s perspective. While Eve is dealing with being captured. Scott is doing the best he can on his end to find her, but the small town police force is proving futile.

The story gives off the creep factor and eerie vibes of a small town ladled by small minded people who protect the inner circle of folks. The cabin, the house, and the shed add a dangerous element to the story that escalates the fear factor.

This capturer is unlike any other I’ve read before. It’s unclear what drives him to take Eve. Everything he does to Eve leaves you wondering what is his purpose? It’s up to Eve to save herself.

The concept and execution were splendid. I didn’t see that twist coming at all. I missed so many key points of information in the beginning that would’ve helped me understand better. Just the same I still wouldn’t have thought about that ending. Very clever and an imaginative conclusion.

How far would 𝐲𝐨𝐮 go to have the life you think you deserve?

❓Would you be complicit in a kidnapping plot

❓ Get in too deep with a sick and twisted psychopath

❓Use the dark web

❓Extreme roleplaying

❓ Murder

All these factors and I was STILL surprised by the ending 🤯

I Said Run is a propulsive thriller that begins with a chilling chapter and then goes back to where it all began. If you've read Britney King's books before, you would know the author's skillful stories are full of suspense and action packed sequences to keep her audiences entertained.

Meet Eve, heiress to wealthy parents who are unhappy with their daughter's decision to marry a man who is below their status. However, she's determined that the situation will be resolved and all will be fine soon.

Things do not go as planned for Eve, when she gets abducted one day.

It's a rollercoaster of emotions and secrets and terror in Britney King's latest. The ending will definitely surprise you.

This book is like, you know, it’s like the cycle of life. It starts as this dumb, little egg, that makes zero sense. Why is it there? Is that an egg even, huh? Then you blink and a larva hatches. Huh? Weird, I know. You keep reading and see this annoying little thing grow into a fuzzy caterpillar, yet it still makes zero sense why it’s there, you may even start to think you might be having a larva infestation, and you just want this infestation confusion to be over. But then, at about 60% of the book, it transforms yet again, and – huh, is that a chrysalis? Oh, that’s getting exciting! And then. Boom. A fucking butterfly emerges. The most beautiful horrible butterfly that has ever butterflied.

And yes, I’m still talking about the book. This book is it all, the egg, the annoying larva, the pupa, the butterfly. But it’s a book.

You thought you had read it all when you read Gone Girl? Think again. And then go and read this book.

This book starts ok and then quickly transcends into pure despair, pure helplessness, and pure hopelessness. At 21% it says, “her gut tells her this is where her nightmare transcends to hell” and it sums up the reading experience so far.

And then. Well well well. Look what happens here, it’s like this signature move of Britney King, she just takes you by surprise and she‘s ruthless. That’s not your regular twist. That’s pure evil what she does there, how she messes with her readers’ heads. Also, the surprise was so huge, so unexpected, it made me snort, followed by laughing out loud. And then, yeah. It goes from bad to worse when you thought all was getting well.

Nothing is spelled out crystal clear and nothing is yelled out repeatedly for all those in the cheap seats to get it (and yes, I did feel like a person in the cheapest of the seats a few times, and I was here for it).

Either way, kids, princesses, and princesses – be careful what you wish for. Wish granting works in mysterious ways, and sometimes you may find yourself winning the dumbest prize ever for having played the dumbest game.

Also, the book title, I Said Run, is not directed toward whomever you think it is, at least not at first for sure.

I Said Run by Britney King grabs you by the throat in the prologue and doesn’t let go until the final twisted scene. It is a terrifying roller-coaster ride with numerous twists and turns. But it is more. It is also a multi-layered examination of the complexity of human nature and the depravity and immorality that characterize actual psychopathological individuals.

The female protagonist is Eve, a wealthy heiress eager to receive her trust fund. She recently relocated to a small country town after marrying Scott, who grew up there. The simplicity of the small town soon loses its charm for Eve, and she yearns for more excitement and adventure. This quest soon turns dark as she encounters an off-the-charts malevolent psychopath named Jenkins. Eve (and others) become his hostages and play-things. Jenkins repeatedly thwarts Eve’s attempts to escape.

Several sub-themes are brilliantly and subtly laid out and explored in Britney King's masterful storytelling style. For example, a theme as old as Aesop’s Fables (circa 260 BC), which perhaps first taught us the lesson of “be careful what you wish for, lest it come true,” is well developed.

Other sub-themes include a sibling rivalry (between Eve and her sister, Lucy), patriarchy, narcissism, and substituting money for human negotiation in solving problems.

I appreciate and applaud how Britney King switched up her usual writing style and, in my opinion, added more depth to the psychological analysis of her characters and their actions.

I Said Run is another 5-star psychological thriller for Britney King. I received an advanced reading copy (ARC) for an honest review. I provide my review voluntarily and enthusiastically.

This twisted thriller is suberb! I love-hate all the characters as each has strong admiring points and some have significant drawbacks... some are completely depraved. As always, the allure to use a quick fix to a problem or situation is an evil wicked thing in the end, regardless of how right or harmless it seemed in the beginning. When I arrived at the last page I was shocked and stupefied. I will definitely be reading this story again!

Jenkins is spot on, "People are never satisfied with what they have. They crave the unknown, the dangerous, the forbidden. And then, when they find themselves immersed in it, they cry out for the safety of their former lives." - Britney King, I Said Run

Things I love about reading Britney King's works - you never really know where the story will take you, how deep the depravity will go, each is beyond unique, and she has such skill in telling the tale! They are fresh stories that suck you in through the teeth, shred you a great bit and toss you back out at the end spinning around the story wondering how it happened so fast with so much that transpired! Truly amazing!

This is an excellent captivating engrossing suspenseful thriller!

This is the best book you will read until Britneys next book comes out.

Eve is free from her parent control building her dream home with her dream man Scott. It came at a cost. She left the rich picking of wealth and had to live with what they have for now. That is till everything changes I mean everything Lucy her sister wanted her to go to Hawaii with her it's where Lucy lived. It would have been better than this.

As usual Britney had surpassed herself with this latest book she puts the Awesome into Physiological Thrillers. Great characters, great story lines, awesome twists that completely blindside you like no other author, in my opinion. Britney writing is special and hence she writes incredible books, this is no exception each page had something to tease or trap you. The twists really are going to get you and the deeper you get into the story the sharper the turns. If you love this type of thriller, then this is really one you will not want to miss.

As I can only give 5 stars please know they are all filled solid with diamonds and the brightest ✨️ stars in the sky putting even the sun to shame. This really is that good and I can't see how you'd be disappointed

Favorite Quotes:

She should have asked Mira how she’s managed to survive, because with the way Jenkins is looking at her, Eve is not sure she wants to.

People are never satisfied with what they have. They crave the unknown, the dangerous, the forbidden. And then, when they find themselves immersed in it, they cry out for the safety of their former lives.

I didn't realize how bankrupt you were— morally and emotionally. Money can't fix that.

Eve can almost taste the irony. For all her persuasive charm and cunning, it took becoming someone’s lifeline to glimpse her own humanity.

My Review:

This was gritty, cringe-worthy, and skin-crawling creepy… yet I couldn’t put it down. I have to admit, I worry what that means about me! As is often the case with Ms. King’s brutally provocative, propulsive, and twisty tales; surprises popped out around every corner and few of the characters were even marginally trustworthy. What a nest of vipers. I couldn’t decide who was the second worst sociopath as there were so many to choose from.

Eve is an heiress who got married to a man who isn't rich, and she's doing her best to put down roots in the small town they live in. Things take a bit turn when she's kidnapped & taken to a remote cabin of horrors while everyone back home believes something else happened to her except her husband which is all I'll say about that. Let's be honest, this a Britney King book so we're taken on a dark & twisty thrill ride with twists coming in hot from every nook & cranny. It's another book of hers that kept me on the edge of my seat with heart racing as I tried to figure everything out before the big reveal. Spoiler Alert...once again I failed at that task LOL! I really thought I really thought I had it this time but nothing is ever at it seems. I LOVED every minute of another twisted tale by this brilliant author, and since I don't want to give anything away, I'm shutting this review down! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Well, this is one of those book where you finish and think ‘what the hell did I just read?!’ It was twisty and full of surprises and I really liked it! I really liked that Britney King kept me on my toes, had me feeling one way about the characters and then that all changes in one quick moment. You don’t know who to like or who to trust or who you hope gets hit by a bus.

With a book like this I don’t want to give anything away so I don’t want to say much about the actual plot or characters, it’s really something that should just be experienced. I will say that though that this book kept me thoroughly entertained and constantly wondering what could possibly happen next. The twists truly surprised me, more than once and the ending left me asking WTF?! I really did enjoy this read and always look forward to whatever twisted adventure awaits when I pick up something from Britney King. If you’re a fan of thrillers, this is one you’ll definitely want to check out.

I've read several Britney King books. She always manages to surprise me and take me through several emotions. But with I Said Run, she takes us to another level. She captures us from the start and doesn't give us back our freedom completely, even at the end. Because I guarantee you'll stay with this story long after you've read the last word.
Complex, well-developed characters, each with their own agenda, maintain the suspense. The deeper the main character, Eve, delves into the darkness of her captor's psyche, the more we realize that we all have a share of darkness and light. For some, evil, twisted minds and wickedness come in different forms.
I loved where Britney King took this story. I was surprised more than once and I must admit I laughed out loud when I saw where she was taking us. Congrats! She did it again!

Eve and Scott are newly weds ( I think). They are happily married and renovating a house. Though Scott works long hours. Eveis from an influential wealthy family and a few years from her trust fund. Her dad isn't happy about her choice of husband so doesn't help her. She's fine with that because she and Scott are in love.
Then Eve Dussapears. 4 moths of torture and trauma before she finally escapes. But is the nightmare over fir the newlyweds?

Wow oh wow what twists and turns. I was absolutely shocked as the story unwound. I read this in one night as I couldn't put it down.

I will admit that I had a couple questions unanswered.

Like what happened to the " branding" I felt like more should have happened after the escape, nothing was said about where she was held and all the other missing people.
Other Than that the story was quite awesome and chilling.

I Said Run by Britney King is another thriller you don’t want to miss by this talented author. I love reading this author’s books, she NEVER disappoints! She has done it again with this one, but this one gives thriller a whole new meaning. It is very creepy and eerie and will take you on a terrifying roller coaster ride from the very start. Ms. King’s strategically placed twist and turns will blow your mind. It is told in dual perspectives with many twisted characters. This is an incredibly written thriller that I highly recommend. I have read quite a few of Britney King’s books, but this one, well she has out done herself!!

Thank you Hot Banana Press and Britney King for this spine tingling thriller to read and review. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

I Said Run: A Psychological Thriller was a great read by Britney King. Eve is a wealthy heiress that is seeking the simplicity of a tranquil life in a country town. The idyllic beginnings take a dark turn when she is caught in the web of a stranger Jenkins. She is trapped in his home around reminders of his late wife. Eve and others become pawns in a game of control and desire. Eve knows she needs to escape when a ray of hope emerges in Mira, a fellow captive. They forge a bond and alliance that could just be their ticket to survival. Eve is determined to outsmart Jenkins with manipulation, deception, and shocking revelations. This book keeps you guessing until the last page and you wont see the twists and turns coming. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

When I pick up a Britney King novel, I know two things: it's most likely gonna get twisted, and I'm gonna love every minute of it. I Said Run doesn't disappoint. The story is fast-paced and edge-of-your-seat gripping, and it's told with Britney King's flair for messing with our minds. Our psychopath is Jenkins, and he's as dark as he is crazy, which leads to some chilling scenes. Of course, it's not as cut and dried as that. This one is so much more than it seems. When you think you know what's what, you probably don't, so expect to feel like you've been gobsmacked when that final twist rolls around. My best advice would be to settle in because you're not gonna want to put this one down. It's the kind of story that keeps you guessing and second-guessing.

This was a terrific ride!! Absolutely page turning with such a major twist at the end .Eve is married to Scott. Eve comes from a lot of money but Scott doesn’t. But she is very much in love with him. One day she is grocery shopping and is kidnapped by a totally unhinged person. She is held in captivity for months but eventually she escapes. There was another women there and a young boy who she tells the police and they find them. I do not want to give away any spoilers but when the first reveal comes I never ever saw that coming and in the last chapter another twist comes. Britney does it again!! Bravo to the queen of psychological thrillers. Just riveting!!!

Well ladies and gents, @britneyking_ has done it again! "I Said Run" is her latest psychological thriller about a woman named Eve who trades in her life of riches, for one of simplicity with her husband. Unfortunately this fairy tale life takes a turn when she becomes prisoner in another man's house. From there this heart-thumping story is told from multiple POVs and has you guessing until the very end. Once again, as with all of her stories, King let me think I knew what was going on, only to be thrown for a loop at the end.

Thank you to @britneyking_ and @enticingjourney for having me part of the ARC team once again! I will literally read anything you put out there!

I Said Run: A Psychological Thriller by Britney King is one of her best books that I have read to date. It grabs your attention from the first page and it is very hard to put it down. Eve is the main character and is a piece of work. One minute you think you have her all figured out and then boom you are on a twisting and turning roller coaster ride until the very end. It will keep you guessing until the final unexpected ending. I highly recommend this book if you are a psychological thriller fan. It surely fits the bill.

My girl threw me off with the third-person POV in this gritty psych thriller, but in typical BK fashion, she had me hooked with a captivating prologue!

King dabbles expertly across several themes with her latest release, 𝘐 𝘚𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘙𝘶𝘯, but she continues to surprise me with the intricacies of her storytelling.

Read if you love:
* Multiple narrators
* Eery kidnapping plots
* Unexpectedly diabolical twists
* Unlikeable characters

Thank you to Enticing Journey and Britney King for the eARC to read and review!

I really liked this book. It was more straightforward than many of Ms. King’s earlier works, and thus easier to follow and understand.
In a sense, this work is an indictment of patriarchy, either its harsh forms or in its more benign expressions.
I’m not sure I really liked the ending, and I’m not entirely sure why. It may be that it lacks a proper catharsis. Whatever! I enjoyed reading this book.

I’m not sure what I expected when I started reading this book. But, I can assure you that by the end, it was beyond any expectations I could have had. Like, I lost count of all the times I said “Do what now?” and “What in the world just happened?” By the time I got to the plot twist, I was glad I was reading in bed so my Kindle landed on the soft mattress when I dropped it out of pure shock. I never saw that coming but it did answer a question that had been on my mind since the early chapters.

There were so many perspectives in this book. We had Eve, the main character. We had her husband, Scott and her sister, Lucy. And we had the demented Jenkins. The only character I actually felt bad for? The husband, Scott. He needs to run, join witness protection, buy a new identity, something. Just run, bro.

When the blurb stated, “Brace yourself for a psychological rollercoaster that will linger in your thoughts long after the final page is turned”, believe it. That was one wild roller coaster my mind went on.

I love Britney King's stories. She never disappoints. I Said Run is an unputdownable thriller that had me gripped from the first page. The characters are strong and brave in the face of adversity. One of the best psychological thrillers I have read. Eve comes from a wealthy family of expectations of her. She marries Scott and moves to a fixer upper in a small remote town. Eve goes missing and the local police feel she ran away. Terror awaits Eve in a remote cabin. There are a number of twists that involve Eve. A page turner that is hard to stop reading.

Once again, Britney King has hit it out of the park! There are several twists and turns in the plot that lead to an ending the reader doesn’t see coming. You cannot go wrong with a book by this author! What I love the most is the originality of the plots that she writes and the ability to pull the reader into the story.
